The Meiji Restoration of Japan

The Meiji Restoration began in the late 19th Century. Matthew Calbraith Perry had arrived in Japan with ships with no sail, the Japanese were surprised. Matthews then forced Japan into signing a treaty on March 31,1854 in order to open up ports for the Western Colonial fleets. Matthew also exposed the weakness of the Tokuwaga shoguns that caused the nationalist to unrests under the slogan "Sunno Joi."

The Japanese economy changed during the Meiji Restoration by ships importing goods from other countries. Yoshida Shoen was also a many cause of the change of Japan by allowing foreigners could come and go. At the Hagi Grammer School Yoshida Shoen is considered a heroe to the kids.
